The blog will share readings from those sources, both in English translation and in Arabic transcription (for manuscripts). Favored topics are biographies of hitherto underestimated scholars, descriptions of works which have not survived, as well as bibliographies of the corpora of selected scholars, both in printed and in manuscript form. I also plan to share improved indices on bibliographical works for better future access, in particular for the works of Ibn Ṭūlūn and Ibn Ṭawq. On the other hand, it is my declared aim to interest young and aspiring scholars to engage with these texts. To this end, translations of anecdotes will be included which shall show the other side of these works—that they aspired to be enjoyed. In these I want to concentrate on those events or biographies which break the usual pattern of a scholarly history and hint at the elusive overarching premises of these works.
